THE WANDERER is a coming-of-age middle-grade fantasy adventure graphic novel.  What if death came to anyone you touch?  This is the curse that follows 12-year-old Wanderer everywhere he goes.  The how and why of Wanderer’s curse are a mystery even to the wise… but after tragedy leaves him orphaned and traumatized, he never questions his curse.  Resourceful and creative, he learns to survive alone in the wild – and while he’d rather be isolated than risk hurting another soul, he desperately dreams of having a friend.

After Wanderer’s curse is blamed for a monster attack on a peaceful town, the ruling sorceress demands he hunt and kill the monster.  Wanderer reluctantly agrees when she promises to cure his curse as payment.  But when Wanderer discovers the monster, it’s not only kind but immune to his curse… in other words, IT’S THE FRIEND HE’S ALWAYS WANTED!  Now he simply has to navigate his first-ever friendship, help his lost friend find their way back home, all while avoiding the cruel sorceress and her minions.  No biggie.  Will Wanderer overcome his curse and save the day… or will he be alone forever?

Throw your fair-tale expectations out the window for this story about friendship, acceptance, and healing curses.

THE WANDERER is not only my longest story to date but it is by far the longest in-development project I’ve ever undertaken.  It started as an animated feature project many years ago, but even after crafting a full-length animatic, it’s hard to get an animated feature off the ground.  I’ve continued to refine the story and it’s now evolved into a graphic novel.  But I won’t let the story or it’s themes die.  Having struggled with self-hate as a child myself, I can think of no more important and urgent goal than to show kids that healing doesn’t come from magic or cures… but from within.
